Blue Beyond Blue is an atmospheric coastal artwork and original fine art photograph created on location on the Isle of Harris in Scotland’s Outer Hebrides. Using long-exposure photography and intentional camera movement (ICM), I photographed the extraordinary turquoise and deep Atlantic blues of the Hebridean sea, creating a painterly abstract seascape shaped entirely through light, movement and the photographic process.
Layers of turquoise, aqua and teal sweep gently across the water before deepening into rich indigo and blue towards the distant horizon. Long exposure and subtle movement of the camera soften the landscape, allowing sea, shore and distant land to dissolve into one another. The result has the fluid beauty of a watercolour while remaining rooted in a real moment and a real landscape, photographed by me on the shores of Harris.
I have always been captivated by the almost impossible colours of the sea around the Outer Hebrides. With Blue Beyond Blue, I wanted to capture more than the appearance of the landscape: the feeling of standing before that immense expanse of water, surrounded by wind, light and colour. It is an original, artist-created photograph, made in camera on location rather than digitally generated — a quiet interpretation of a place I experienced and photographed myself.
Created to have wonderful presence at a large scale, Blue Beyond Blue makes striking oversized blue wall art for a living room, bedroom, coastal home or contemporary interior. Its luminous turquoise and deep blue palette works beautifully alongside natural wood, stone, charcoal and warm neutral furnishings. For collectors and interior designers seeking original Scottish photography, atmospheric coastal art or large statement artwork, it brings both dramatic colour and a wonderful sense of tranquillity to a room.
